Historic Homes Under Old Oaks

Why pruning comes first

Around downtown, Donnelly Park and the residential streets that climb up from the lake, many homes are shaded by live oaks with limbs reaching far over roofs, porches and narrow streets. For most of these trees the best treatment is careful tree trimming: removing deadwood, shortening limbs that rub the house, clearing chimneys and gutters, and lifting branches over the street so trucks and buses pass without tearing bark. Thoughtful pruning keeps the canopy that gives Mount Dora its character while lowering the chance of storm damage.

When a tree has to go

Not every old tree can be saved. Laurel oaks with hollow trunks, pines damaged by lightning and trees with roots cut during past construction may become hazards. In those cases we plan a tree removal that respects tight spaces, old brick and neighbors' property, often lowering wood piece by piece from the bucket truck.

Hills, Lakes and Roots

Mount Dora sits higher than much of Central Florida, and many lots slope toward Lake Dora or the smaller lakes in town. Big roots on a hill can lift sidewalks, crack driveways and push against foundations and retaining walls. Our root removal and stump grinding services deal with what is left after a removal so you can repair hardscape or replant. On lakefront lots we work carefully on soft ground near the shoreline and keep debris out of the water.

Hilltop trees also catch more wind. During summer thunderstorms and the occasional hurricane that reaches Lake County, tall pines and top-heavy oaks on exposed ridges are often the first to break. If a storm leaves limbs on your roof or a trunk across the drive, we cut it free and haul the wood away.

Growth Along US-441 and the Wekiva Parkway

With the Wekiva Parkway and the US-441 corridor bringing Orlando closer, new homes and businesses are going up on former grove and pasture land on the edges of Mount Dora. Builders and owners call us for lot clearing on wooded parcels, selective clearing that keeps the best oaks, and stump removal before grading. Our forestry mulcher and track loader handle the brush, and the wheel loader with log grapple moves the heavy wood.

We work throughout the Golden Triangle with neighboring Eustis and Tavares, and down toward Orlando.

FAQ

Mount Dora Tree Service & Land Clearing FAQ

Do I need approval to remove a tree in Mount Dora?

Mount Dora has its own tree regulations, and properties in historic areas or HOAs may have additional rules. Check with the city before removing a tree; we can explain what is usually needed. Florida Statute 163.045 may apply if a qualified arborist or landscape architect documents that the tree is dangerous.

What is the best time of year to prune live oaks in Mount Dora?

Late winter and spring are popular because the tree is easy to see before the summer growth, and pruning is finished before hurricane season. Dead or hanging limbs should be removed any time they appear.

Can you work around narrow streets and parked cars downtown?

Yes. We plan equipment placement in advance, set up cones and keep sidewalks safe while we work, and leave the street clean when we finish.
