Life Around Kings Bay
Crystal River is best known for its manatees, which gather by the hundreds in the warm springs of Kings Bay each winter, and for Three Sisters Springs, one of the most photographed spots on the Nature Coast. Many homes sit on the canals that branch off the bay, with docks, seawalls and boat lifts only a few steps from the back door.
The trees around those homes are a coastal mix: live oaks and laurel oaks draped in Spanish moss, sabal palms, red cedar, southern magnolia, and bald cypress along the wettest edges. They provide shade and privacy, but they also hang over roofs, pool cages and the water itself. Working on them takes planning, because a dropped limb can land on a dock or a neighbor's boat if it is not controlled.
When Surge Water Damages Trees
Crystal River has seen what storm surge can do. Hurricane Idalia in 2023 pushed Gulf water into downtown streets and many Kings Bay neighborhoods, and other storms have done the same over the years. Surge damage to trees is not always obvious right away. Salt water that soaks the root zone can stress oaks, magnolias and ornamental trees, and the decline may show up months later as thinning leaves, dead tops and loose bark.
If your property flooded, it is worth having the trees looked at once things dry out. Some will recover with time and a little pruning of dead wood. Others will be too weakened to keep safely near a house, and planned tree removal is far better than waiting for the next storm to bring them down.

What Crystal River Owners Call Us For
- Storm cleanup. Downed trees, split trunks and piles of limbs after a hurricane or a strong summer squall, followed by debris removal so the yard is usable again.
- Waterfront trimming. Lifting and thinning canopies over docks, roofs and screened pools, with wood lowered by rope instead of dropped.
- Drainage problems. Leaves, sediment and roots can choke ditches, culverts and yard drains in low-lying neighborhoods. Our stormwater drain cleaning helps water move off the property after heavy rain.
- Stump grinding. Clearing old stumps left behind by storms or earlier removals with our stump grinding service.
Inland Acreage Off SR-44 and US-19
Not every Crystal River job is on the water. East of US-19, along SR-44 toward Lecanto and Inverness, there is more open land, wooded parcels and properties with room for a workshop, a barn or a new home. These owners usually need different help: land clearing for a building site, brush removal around outbuildings, or a path cut through pines and palmetto to reach the back of the property.
For that work we bring heavier machines, including a track loader with a forestry mulcher, a grapple-equipped loader for moving logs, and a dump trailer. Clearing inland ground also helps reduce the buildup of dry brush that can fuel wildfires in late spring.

Neighborhoods and Nearby Towns
We serve homes and businesses throughout Crystal River, from the historic downtown and the canals around Kings Bay to the residential streets off US-19 and the properties along Fort Island Trail heading out toward the Gulf. The Crystal River Preserve State Park and the archaeological park mark the quieter, wilder edges of town.
From here, we also work south in Homosassa, east in Lecanto and Inverness, and north toward the Withlacoochee River and Yankeetown.
Choosing FTDF Services in Citrus County
Our company is based in northwest Tampa and serves a 100-mile radius that reaches well into Citrus County. US-19 is a straight run north for our trucks. We keep the equipment that coastal properties call for: a bucket truck for tall trees near structures, climbing gear, a stump grinder and heavier clearing machines for inland acreage. Our office takes calls from early morning until late evening seven days a week, and our crew works in English and Spanish.
Before any work begins, you get a free estimate with a clear description of what will be cut, what will stay and how the site will be cleaned up. You can start the process on our contact page.
