A Town Shaped by Its Lakes
Land O' Lakes grew up around its water. Older neighborhoods sit on the shores of Lake Padgett and many smaller lakes, with homes tucked under live oaks and laurel oaks that were already large when the houses were built. Cypress lines the shallow edges, sabal palms fill the yards and slash pines stand on the higher sandy ridges between basins.
That setting is a big part of why people move here, and it also shapes the tree work we do. Mature canopy over roofs and docks, soft soil near the water and roots that run under driveways and seawalls all call for a careful approach rather than just a chainsaw.
Pruning and Caring for Mature Oaks
A healthy live oak can live for generations if it is pruned well. Most of the oak work we do in Land O' Lakes is tree trimming aimed at keeping those trees safe and sound:
- Removing dead, broken and crossing limbs
- Reducing long, heavy limbs that reach over roofs and pool enclosures
- Raising the canopy over driveways, streets and boat ramps
- Clearing branches away from service drops and roof lines
Laurel oaks are a different story. They are common in older Land O' Lakes yards but are shorter-lived than live oaks and are prone to internal decay as they age. When a laurel oak has hollow sections or a heavy lean toward the house, tree removal is often the responsible choice. We use our bucket truck to take it down in controlled sections.

Lakefront Lots and Trees Near the Water
Waterfront properties come with extra considerations. Shoreline cypress and other vegetation along lake edges are often protected, and work in or near wetlands may need approval from Pasco County or the Southwest Florida Water Management District. Before any work near the shore, check with the county; we can explain what is typically asked for and plan around it.
On the practical side, wet ground near the lake can be too soft for heavy equipment. We choose access routes and machines to avoid rutting lawns and damaging seawalls, and we can grind stumps flush so the yard can slope naturally down to the water.
New Homes Along SR-54, US-41 and the Suncoast Parkway
While the lakefront neighborhoods are established, the land on the edges of Land O' Lakes is filling in quickly. Large master-planned communities such as Connerton and newer subdivisions off SR-54 have brought builders into areas that were pine flatwoods and pasture. Individual owners are also building on scattered lots in older parts of town.
Our lot clearing service handles those parcels, from a single overgrown infill lot to a group of lots for a small builder. We remove trees, brush and stumps, then haul the material away so the site is ready for the next step.

Roots, Stumps and Drainage Trouble
Big oaks mean big roots. In Land O' Lakes we often see roots heaving driveways, cracking walkways and crowding septic and drain lines. Our root removal work cuts and removes problem roots, and our stump grinder clears what is left after a removal so the ground can be used again.
Heavy summer rain also tests every swale and drain. When leaves, sediment and debris clog the system, low yards and streets can hold water for days. We clean storm drains and overgrown drainage ditches for homeowners and HOAs.
Hurricanes, Lightning and Choosing FTDF Services
Being inland helps, but hurricanes and tropical storms still bring down trees here, and saturated lakeside soil makes large oaks easier to topple. Pruning ahead of storm season and dealing with weak trees early are the best protection. Once a storm has passed, our crew cuts up downed trees and hauls the mess away.
FTDF Services is based just south in northwest Tampa, which makes Land O' Lakes a short trip for our crew, and we cover a full 100-mile radius. We are available seven days a week, our estimates are free and we speak English and Spanish. Use our contact page to set up your estimate, or explore nearby Lutz and Wesley Chapel.
