Why So Many Port Charlotte Lots Need Clearing
Developers platted Port Charlotte in the mid-twentieth century with street after street of quarter-acre homesites, many of them along a network of man-made canals. Building has filled in a lot of those streets, but vacant parcels are still scattered throughout, sitting next to finished homes. Left alone for years, a typical lot grows thick with Brazilian pepper, wax myrtle, sabal palms, slash pines and vines.
Before a builder can set a foundation, that growth has to come out. Our lot clearing service removes trees, brush and roots so the surveyor can stake the house and the contractor can bring in fill.
How We Clear a Residential Homesite
- Walk the lot with the owner or builder, mark trees to save and identify the house pad, driveway and drain field areas.
- Mulch or remove brush using the compact track loader with a forestry mulcher, which grinds pepper trees and undergrowth in place. Where the mulch layer isn't wanted on the building pad, we haul the material off instead.
- Take down larger trees and the wheel loader's log grapple carries trunks to the haul pile.
- Pull or grind stumps. Under a slab, stump removal takes out the root mass; elsewhere grinding is usually enough.
- Rough-level the site as part of site preparation so it drains and is ready for the next trade.
Charlotte County regulates lot clearing and tree removal, and some lots carry protected-species reviews, so builders and owners should confirm permit requirements with the county ahead of time; we can explain what is usually needed.

Larger Parcels and Acreage
Outside the platted grid, toward the Peace and Myakka rivers and east of I-75, there are bigger tracts of pine flatwoods and scrub. For those, land clearing and forestry mulching open up space for a home, a barn or a fence line without the cost of hauling every load away.
Trees Around Existing Homes and Storm Recovery
Established homes off US-41, Kings Highway and SR-776 still need regular tree work: palms over pool cages, oaks crowding the roof, and pines that were weakened by Hurricane Ian in 2022 and have been declining since. Our tree removal crews take these down with the bucket truck and clean up completely. After a storm, we clear fallen trees and haul away debris. We also work throughout neighboring Punta Gorda and North Port.
