Dunedin Tree Trimming, Removal and Storm Prep

Dunedin packs a lot into a small town: a walkable downtown, older cottages under heavy oak canopy and homes facing St. Joseph Sound. Each setting asks something different of a tree crew, and we plan every job around the property in front of us.

Three Kinds of Dunedin Properties

Older homes near downtown

The blocks around Main Street and the Pinellas Trail are full of mature live oaks draped in Spanish moss, many planted long before the houses were remodeled or expanded. Their limbs reach over roofs, porches and garages, and the lots leave little room to work. Careful pruning keeps these trees healthy and clear of the house without stripping the canopy that gives these streets their character.

Waterfront along St. Joseph Sound

Homes on the water side of town, out toward Honeymoon and Caladesi islands, take wind and salt straight off the Gulf. Palms do well here, but oaks and pines can lean or lose roots in soft, wet soil after repeated storms.

Newer subdivisions inland

East of Alt US-19 the lots get a little wider, and the typical call is a pine or oak that has grown too close to the house or into the power service line.

How a Typical Dunedin Job Goes

  1. Free estimate: we walk the yard with you, look at the tree's lean, decay and target zone, and talk about trimming versus removal.
  2. Access plan: we decide whether the bucket truck can reach from the street or whether a climber needs to rope pieces down over fences and pool cages.
  3. The work: limbs come down in controlled sections. For a full tree removal, the trunk is lowered last.
  4. Cleanup: wood and brush go into the dump trailer, and stump grinding can be done the same visit if you choose.

Getting Ready for Hurricane Season

Dunedin's location on the Gulf side of the county means a storm doesn't have to make landfall nearby to cause damage. Dead limbs, heavy end weight and trees already leaning toward a house are the main things we look for during a pre-season visit. Palms should have dead fronds and seed stalks removed, but not be stripped down to a few green fronds, which weakens them. If a storm does bring trees down, we handle cutting, removal and debris removal so your property is safe to use again.

We also serve the neighboring communities of Palm Harbor and Clearwater, and you can see all of our tree services on one page.

FAQ

Dunedin Tree Service & Land Clearing FAQ

Will you remove Spanish moss or just the tree limbs?

Spanish moss doesn't harm a tree by itself, so we don't strip it as a separate service. Thinning the crown during pruning removes a good amount along with dead branches, which also helps light reach your lawn.

Do I need city approval to take down a tree in Dunedin?

The City of Dunedin has rules about removing certain trees, so check with the city before any large removal. We can explain what is usually needed. If a certified arborist or licensed landscape architect documents that a tree at your home is a danger, Florida law (Statute 163.045) removes the need for a local permit.

How long does a typical removal take?

A single residential tree in Dunedin can often be removed and cleaned up in one day. Large oaks over structures or jobs with limited access can take longer, and we will tell you what to expect at the estimate.
